Seven Layer Chevron Venetian Trade Beads
Sizes are roughly about 1 cm. Weight ranging between 0.5 – 1 gram.
Venetian Chevron trade beads have been crafted in Venice since the late 15th century. Made by layering different colors of molten glass, they are then cut to reveal striking zigzag or starburst patterns. Typically featuring bold hues like red, blue, white, and yellow, these beads are known for their intricate craftsmanship, making them highly valued by traders and collectors.
From the 16th to 19th centuries, the Venetian beads played a key role in global trade, especially across Africa and the Americas. European merchants exchanged them for goods such as gold, ivory, and spices, highlighting their importance in commerce. Today, they remain popular among collectors and jewelry makers, cherished for their rich history and vibrant beauty.
Our chevron beads date from the 1500s to the 1600’s.
