Description
Pre-columbian Tiahuanaco Polychrome Kero
Middle Horizon, ca. 600 to 1000 CE.
Bolivia
Size is about 4.5 inches tall and weighs about 172 grams.
The Tiahuanaco Polychrome Kero, made between 600 and 1000 CE in Bolivia, is a colorful drinking cup used by the Tiwanaku people. These cups were made from wood or clay and decorated with bright colors like red, yellow, black, and white in bold patterns and figures. They were used in important ceremonies, especially for drinking chicha, a traditional maize drink. The kero shows how skilled the Tiwanaku were in art and how their culture spread across the Andes region.
Many of the Peruvian cultures made beautiful keros. These Pre-Columbian cultures included Inca, Huari, Nazca and Tiahuanaco among others.
