Description
Partial Dinosaur Egg Nest
Raptorid Elongatolithidae
Late Cretaceous 80 million years old
Found in Guangdong Province, China
Size is about 8.5 inches long and 4 inches tall.
A partial raptorid egg nest from about 80 million years ago was found in Guangdong Province, southern China. The fossil contains several long, narrow eggs believed to be laid by small meat-eating dinosaurs, possibly oviraptorosaurs. Even though the nest is incomplete, the way the eggs are grouped suggests the dinosaurs may have cared for their eggs. These fossil eggs help scientists learn more about how these dinosaurs nested and reproduced during the Late Cretaceous period.
