Fossil Leaves 300 Million years old. White Fossil Pecopteris leaves in black shale from the Pennsylvanian Epoch in the Carboniferous period. The shale matrix measures 225mm by 80mm (9 in x 3in) and is covered with several different kinds of leaves on both sides with other leaves in the layers in between. A stunning display fossil.
