712-332 BC Late Period
From Egypt
Size is about 2 inches long and weighs about 10.9 grams.
Faience ushabti figures from Egypt, made between 712-332 BC during the Late Period, were small statues placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife. Made of faience, a glazed ceramic material, they were often inscribed with spells to protect the deceased. The figures usually showed mummified individuals with crossed arms and were meant to do tasks for the deceased, helping them avoid hard work in the afterlife. During the Late Period, these ushabtis became more common as people focused on ensuring a smooth journey to the afterlife.
