Calcite

Calcite from the Kalahari Manganese Field in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa is a common mineral made of calcium carbonate. In this area, it often forms clear to white crystals, and sometimes appears pink because of manganese in the ground. The crystals can be shiny and well-shaped, growing on dark manganese-rich rock. These specimens are popular with mineral collectors because of their bright crystal faces and the interesting minerals found with them in this famous mining region.
