Peru

Size 5.5 inches tall and weighing 235 grams.

A Vicus Culture terracotta figure from Peru, made between 200 BC and 200 AD, is a clay sculpture showing people, animals, or daily life. These figures were often used in ceremonies or placed in tombs as offerings. They have detailed features, expressive faces, and smooth reddish surfaces. They help us learn about the Vicus people’s beliefs, clothing, and way of life, and show their skill in making pottery.

The Vicus culture (Early Intermediate Period c.200BCE-800CE) centered in the Piura region of northwest Peru. It is famous due to being part of the Moche State which controlled the region from as reflected in the elaborate Moche artifacts and a royal Moche tomb of Loma Negra in the Piura River Valley.
