Stone oil lamp

The Gandharan stone oil lamp, made from schist around 300 AD in the Indus Valley, was used to give light in homes and during religious ceremonies. It was carefully carved and sometimes decorated with simple designs influenced by both Indian and Greek styles. The strong stone made it last a long time. These lamps were useful but also had spiritual meaning, often used in temples or as offerings.
