The Gomphotherium molar, dating from between 10 million and 12,000 years ago, represents the teeth of an early elephant-like mammal that once roamed North America. Gomphotherium, a distant relative of modern elephants, had distinctive, low-crowned molars with multiple cusps, adapted for grinding tough vegetation. These molars provide valuable insights into the diet and ecological role of the species, which was herbivorous. It likely fed on a variety of plant materials in diverse environments.
