Description

Galena and Chalcopyrite

Size is about 3 inches by 2 inches and weighs about 290 grams.

Galena and chalcopyrite are both important sulfide minerals, commonly found in ore deposits. Galena (PbS) is the primary ore of lead, characterized by its metallic luster and cubic crystal structure, often appearing in shades of silver-gray. It is also a significant source of silver, as it often contains silver as a trace element. Chalcopyrite (CuFeS₂), on the other hand, is a copper-iron sulfide mineral that is the principal ore of copper. It has a brass-yellow color with a metallic sheen and is typically found in hydrothermal vein deposits. Both minerals are valuable to the mining industry, with galena primarily being mined for lead and silver, while chalcopyrite is mainly processed for copper extraction.
